The walls are his coloring board
Why, out of all the many writing utensils we have laying around, does 2 yr old only want to use the permanent markers? Seriously? He can have crayons, pens, pencils, colored pencils, washable markers, etc all in reach, but instead he has to climb on top of the desk or even entertainment center to get to the permanent markers. Is he already wanting to leave his mark on the world? Or maybe he thinks I need the exercise running after him then scrubbing the walls, floors, books, and him down? We go through Mr. Clean Magic Erasers faster than they can produce them! We should buy stock in it. And those Scotch Brite rip-offs? They aren't worth the foam crap they are made with, seriously, they just aren't up to cleaning 2yr old's messes. They fall to pieces in surrender. I'm thinking of either painting the walls black so you can't see where he colors, or fixing giant pads of paper to all the walls so I can just rip off a used one and have a clean wall again. Hm, disposable walls...nah, probably wouldn't work.

I am right there with you! Anyone know how to get magic marker out of clothes? Nathan took a highlighter pen and wrote on his new outfit. I got to try and save it!
I haven't had any success with clothes :( He has colored a few of his cute outfits and now the are just play clothes. But rubbing alcohol works wonders taking it out of carpet!
I'm giggling at the black walls idea -- but man, that is tough! Teaching kids to only write on paper is a trick. Good luck with your cleaning!
Permanent markers are a toughie. I heard they sell stuff that removes it. My second son once markered a cabinet. I put contact paper over it lol.
If ya paint the walls black, he'll change to chalk! *LOL* I guess it'd be easier to clean.
LOL. I so completely relate! My little girl started this when she was two and still does it occasionally even though she is three and a half. Every time I cleaned a spot she redecorated it. I went through so many magic erasers I gave up and decided to wait until the behavior was corrected and then clean it all off at once. Which I did. A couple months ago. Now my walls look like picasso lives here. Again. *AAAGH* I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football just as Lucy moves it. :P
Oh, for clothes, the best thing I found to get any kind of stain out of clothes is OXY Clean laundry spray. It gets almost anything out. I bet it gets the highlighter out. Don't know about the rest of it...
